Mary Field has been a solicitor since 1977, specialising in family law.
In 1989 she trained as a family mediator with the Family Mediators Association. She has undertaken further training as a professional practice supervisor.
She was awarded a post graduate diploma in counselling in 1997 and has worked as a counsellor. She is a director of Family Mediation in Sussex and practices as a mediator and supervisor in Chichester, Haywards Heath and Bognor Regis.

All of the FMIS mediators are accredited members of the Family Mediators Association and members of the UK College of Family Mediators and have met its requirements as to competent practice and work to its standards. They are all recognised to conduct publicly funded mediation by the Legal Services Commission.
