Family Mediation in Sussex (FMIS) is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This policy sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by us. We are a Limited Company No 3692973 and we are regulated by the Legal Aid Agency and the Family Mediation Council.

We may collect and process the following data about you: Information you give us. You may give us information about you by filling in forms on our site or by corresponding with us by phone, e-mail or otherwise. This includes information you provide when you register to use our site. The information you give us may include your name, address, e-mail address IP address and phone number.

Understanding how we obtain, store and use your personal data

When you provide personal information to us, you understand that you are agreeing to allow us when we are involved in the mediation process to share certain data held by us. Your file will not be shared with any unauthorised persons with the exception of

  • the Professional Practice Consultants (PPCs) for practice supervision;
  • the Complaints Officers of FMIS and Family Mediators Association (FMA);
  • the FMIS Administrator to manage compliance with Family Mediation Council (FMC) professional standards;
  • the Legal Aid Agency to audit compliance with the FMIS Legal Aid Contract;
  • Security of personal data

    We have a duty of client confidentiality. Any client personal data provided to us will be held in the strictest of confidence. Any personal data that we hold is kept securely and not disclosed to any third parties. Our IT is fully encrypted with password protection. Efforts are made to limit access to our database which holds personal data to only those who are authorised by us. Your personal data will be retained for 6 years after the closure of your case before secure destruction or deletion.

    Accessing or Updating your personal data

    You may request access to or deletion of your personal information held by us. You can request a copy of your personal information, which could be a copy of everything we have on record relating to you. You can keep your personal data up to date and make changes.     Website data collection and storage

    Data is collected in two ways from the FMIS website

  • Via the Contact form
  • Via Google Analytics.

    Contact Form.

    Data submitted via our contact form is encrypted in transit and is delivered to our admin@fmis.org.uk email address. A third party website EmailMeForm is used to provide this service and is managed by us in a secure password protected area.     Google Analytics

    Anonymous browsing data is collected via cookies and is collated by Google for our website traffic analysis. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing their browser add-on available here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
